Bonjour à toutes nos familles

Upcoming Community Consultation

It's time to set the strategic direction for the school for the next three years. Part of this process is talking to whānau over coffee to help identify what is important to your family and our school community.  In order to get a whole range of voices, we will randomly select around 30 families to take part.  A member of our Board, Sarah or Kathryn will get in touch to arrange a coffee date at a time that suits.  If you don't hear from us but would like to share your views, we'd love to hear from you. Just send sarah@ridgway.school.nz an email and we will set up a chat.  You should hear by the end of next week if you are one of the lucky ones who have been selected and we hope to have all the conversations done by the 8th of June. Following these conversations, we will put together a survey with the findings that everyone can contribute to.

Visit from the Prime Minister and the Minister of Education on Monday

Look out for us on the news on Monday! We have been told that Prime Minister Chris Hipkins and the Minister of Education, Jan Tinetti, are coming to visit us on Monday morning.  They are going to speak to our school and then take questions from the media.  Time to try out that new hairstyle kids!

Thanks to the Vogelmorn Foundation!

We received a grant of $5,000 from the Vogelmorn Foundation to go towards providing extra tutoring for some of our at-risk learners. Thank you Vogelmorn!

Pink Shirt Day

This is coming up next Friday.  Wear pink (or something bright if pink is not a feature of your wardrobe)! We will be talking about this in classes next week, especially about being an upstander, and will take a whole school spectacular photo on the day!

Parent help for lunchtime chess

Any parents/grandparents/randoms out there interested in running a lunchtime chess group once a week so the chess kids get to practise their skills. No specific chess knowledge is required, the main task is to assign the pairings and collate the results. Chess tutor Mark van der Hoorn will email the info for each round to the school office which would then be printed off and collected on arrival.

If you are interested, let the office know.

Nits!

Please check your child’s hair for nits and treat them if you find them.  There are quite a few cases out there at the moment.

VBC Eurovision Screening Party, Wellington, Sun 14th May 2023, 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm

This event will have two components.

- Firstly, a family-friendly celebration of Europe, by watching Eurovision and voting for your favourites.

- Secondly, a dance party to tap into the energy you’ve accumulated watching ‘fabulous’ pop.

The event has a couple of optional ways to enhance your European experience.

- One is an opportunity to dress up in European style (euro trash) and win prizes. There will be spot prizes for adults and kids!

- You can also contribute to the Eurovision atmosphere by bringing a snack to share from your favourite European country. And there will be voting!

We will have the bar open from 3pm for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, so you can buy a drink for Mother's Day! We'll also have tasty kai available for purchase on the day.
