Bike Track Refresh - calling all volunteers!

Would you like to donate some time back to the community by helping refresh the bike track? We are after volunteers!

This will involve weeding, cutting back some growth, and clearing drains. Resurfacing will be managed by the school.

Please just turn up for as long as you can and bring some tools (and PPE) if you have them. We will also have a selection available.

Dates:

Thursday 16 March 2023 6 - 7.30pm

Sunday 19 March 2023 3 - 6pm

Tuesday 21 March 2023 6 - 7.30pm

Any questions give Jason Eady a call on 021 0656 372.

Cross Country

School cross country is next term in the second week, Thursday 4 May at school.  Children run in their year groups around the neighbouring streets, with the course getting longer the older they get. Let’s get those children out there training!

Support safe travel for all in our neighbourhood - March 30th, 5.30pm

Come and hear about the work being done by Te Kura o Tawatawa and whānau, to improve traffic safety in our neighbourhood. This event is in support of ‘Movin’ March’, where schools across the motu are encouraged to walk, scoot or pedal to school. Come along and join the conversation.

For the motivated, here is some great information that has supported our approach so far:

A farewell from the wonderful Julie Hanify

Well, I put on my teaching sandals and a floral dress borrowed from my sister in the summer of 1980 in Ohakune, and stood in front of a class of 34 tamariki thinking, 'Yikes! I wish I'd taken drama at Teachers' College - because I feel like I'm an actor now, with no training'. I felt like I was running with scissors downhill in Roman sandals.

I'm not quite old enough to retire yet, but at the end of this term I'm leaving teaching full time. I feel like one of the three little pigs heading off to seek my fortune - ready for new and magical adventures.

As a side note - I'll be looking for something interesting - so keep your ears and eyes open for me.

Athletics Day - parent help wanted!

We are holding our annual athletics day at Newtown Park on Thursday 23 March 2023.  The whole school events start at 9.30 am and include: short sprints, long jump, high jump, vortex, quoits, discus and shot put (yr 7 and 8s).

There is an 800m for year 5 - 6s only and a 1,500m for year 7 and 8s only.  These races are first and start at 9:00 am. Please complete the online entry form before 3pm Friday 17th March if your child wants to compete in these optional events.

We need a lot of parent help to successfully run this event. It is a big day with lots of events running simultaneously and we would appreciate parent help with timing, measuring, recording, etc.
If you are able to join us as a parent helper please sign up using this form.
