Bike Track

Progress continues this week on Stage 1 of the Vogelmorn Bike Track and we hope to see the asphalt laid on Friday (if the weather is fine), so it's not long until our students can ride on it.

Bike Track Fundraising

Fundraising efforts are in full swing with the Give-a-Little page and raffle currently on the go, and a movie night planned.

Brooklyn Market - Kids cake baking competition fundraiser

The Brooklyn Community Centre is revamping their markets this year with the first one being held on Saturday 24 March from 2pm – 5pm.

This first market will focus on children with a kids’ cake baking competition. There will be a prize for the one judged best overall on presentation and taste. Slices of cake will be sold and the money received will go towards the Bike Track.

Jason Eady is still waiting to hear from willing volunteers with landscaping knowledge and expertise (0210656372 or jasoneady@hotmail.com). There will be some work to do around different points in the track to beautify it and also to ensure that children ride around the track and don't create new tracks across the football fields. Once we have a landscaping plan, we will call for helpers to do the actual work of digging, moving dirt and planting.

Notices, News, Information, and Updates

Teachers and admin staff make every effort to keep you fully informed about everything that is going on at Ridgway School. This term we are reviewing and updating our communications strategy in an effort to make it even easier for parents and other whānau members to keep track of everything that is happening around the school.

We like to do all of our communication electronically and don’t usually send home paper notices.

E-mail notices & Google Forms

If your child is involved in a trip or teachers wish to send home a notice about an event, you will receive an email link to a Google Doc or Google form.

Since moving to Google forms to gather information from parents (e.g. volunteers for parent help on a trip, elective selection) we’ve noticed that our teachers are saving lots of time that was previously lost on administration tasks.

Facebook - “Ridgway School Wellington”

If you haven’t noticed already, our Facebook page is active again. This is where we will be posting photos showing some of the fantastic things that are happening around the school. We’ll also put up brief reminders here. Please ‘like’ to let us know you have seen the post.

Teachers' weekly email message:

Each whānau team send a message each week with reminders that are relevant to their group of tamariki. This email is brief and unformatted. It's supposed to be a short 'no frills' update.

(These have got quite long lately, but we'll be working to bring the word count down to less than 150 words per week.)

The school newsletter - posted to our website

The newsletter informs you about upcoming events and gives information that is relevant to the whole school. You will be sent a short email message to let you know it is there. Simply click on the link and you'll be whisked to the website - which is fully compatible with mobile devices, so can be read from your phone no matter where you are.

Our website - www.ridgway.school.nz

Come here to see what is coming up and for general information about our school. You can access our calendar from here too.

Text Message

We’ll often send out a test message on the morning of an event as a last chance reminder.

Twitter - @ridgwayschool

You can follow us on Twitter to catch a different glimpse into the exciting things happening around the school.

If you have questions...

Send an email to your child’s homegroup teacher in the first instance (you’ll find teacher email addresses on our website), or to Raelene Sloper in our office. Teachers check their emails at least once every weekday, before 5pm.
