Week 10, Term 1, 2017
Kia ora, talofa, ni hao, mālō e lelei, hallo, hola, chomreabsuor, sabaidi, bonjour, namaste, kumaste, kia orana, yassas, as-salam ‘alaykum, cześċ, Kon'nichiwa, and hello to all of our families.
At the end of this term we will sadly farewell Kim O'Brien from Kākā and Renata Balfour from Tūī.
While Kim has only been with us for just over a year we have appreciated the energy and enthusiasm that she has brought to her classroom teaching and to our staff. Kim has done a lot of work behind the scenes in reviewing our procedures for running events and trips and has made a valuable contribution to our Enviroschool team. Kim is resigning to be able to better support her own family.
Renata has been a teacher at Ridgway since 2013, working in the junior area, and will have taught many of the children currently attending our school. Renata has made an important contribution across the school particularly in teaching te reo Māori and establishing our kapa haka group, also acting as a liaison between the parent whānau hui group and our staff. She has also been a key person in our Enviroschool team. Renata is resigning for health reasons.
We wish Kim and Renata well for the future and thank them both for the work they've done here at Ridgway. Both of these teachers have worked extremely hard for our students and remain loyal and dedicated to this school.
We have advertised both of these positions and will follow a careful appointment process to ensure that we appoint the best people possible. We are very lucky to have several highly competent relievers who are already familiar with our systems and know our children well; we know that we can rely on them to stand in the gaps in the short term. Our collaborative teaching approach ensures that even though one homegroup teacher is leaving (in each of Whānau Kākā and Tūī) the other teachers will be able to continue classroom programmes with minimal disruption.

Kapa Haka Group Photos
School photos have been taken already, but we have asked the photographers to come back to school on Thursday 13 April (that's the last day of term) to take formal group photos of the 2 kapa haka groups. Kapa haka students need to wear their Ridgway t-shirts on this day.
