Matariki Celebration
Last week’s Matariki Celebration was a roaring success! The children worked together to prepare the hangi from food they had brought in, which ended up being perfectly cooked under the watchful eye of the Hangi Guardian and Queen of the Stuffing, Jaime. Thanks Jaime! Also thank you to all the parents who were able to join us for waiata at the end of the day. It was lovely to see so many of you there and to have an audience to perform to.
A big thank you to New World Island Bay for their food donation and to Bunnings Lyall Bay for their donation for the planting.

The Returning Officer is Jessica Wells. If each parent wants to vote in the elections, we need separate email addresses. Please check your details in the app and get in touch if they are not up to date. The election will be electronic so up to date email addresses need to be recorded. Thanks to the Vogelmorn Foundation
A big thanks to the Vogelmorn Foundation! On 7th June we received a Grant of $7692.00 from the Vogelmorn Foundation to go towards our new PE shed and music storage area.
Communication
If you feel like you have missed information from us, your best bet is to get in touch with Sarah or check the newsletter. A comment we hear from parents is that they haven’t had any information about something, when it has been in the newsletter. The newsletter is where you can find the information about school and there is a search function on the website so you can search for specific information. Last minute information that misses the newsletter cut off will go via the app, email or text depending on urgency. Do feel free to get in touch if you think you’ve missed something.Fundraising for camp - school lunches and Spellathon
Next term we will be running in-school fundraising for camp by making lunches. Lunchonline will stop from Week 3 (Monday 8 August). A form will go out at the start of the term to select lunches for your child. We will do this on Thursdays and we would love parent help with this if you have any time on a Thursday.
The children in Year 5 - 8 are taking part in a Spellathon. Children have been given lists and sponsor cards (refer to the email sent from Libby for more information). Just a reminder that the sponsor forms are due back at school on Wednesday 6 July.
VBC Matariki Celebration - July 2nd
Join us this Saturday July 2nd, from 4pm - 7.30pm for an evening of warmth, reflection and community connection.
We will come together through waiata, raranga weaving, shared kai and storytelling. There will be opportunities to connect, share thoughts and engage in reflection and aspiration. Bring the whānau and a plate to share with the community, we'll also have a boil up going, so bring an appetite!
Entry free, koha welcome. Be sure to book a spot through the Eventbrite link so that we can get an idea of numbers.
We are looking for volunteers to lend a hand and help us run the event so that it can be as enjoyable and smooth as possible. If you are free and willing - please see the volunteer roster and pop your name in the spaces that are best suited to you. In exchange for your time, we will offer you a voucher to the cafe and community hire rates.
