Te Kura O Tawatawa - Ridgway School

In 2019 the board consulted with our local iwi about adopting a te reo Māori name for our school.

Two options were considered acceptable by iwi and after further consultation with our school whānau hui group, the board chose Te Kura o Tawatawa.

This name was chosen as it provides a strong link to the traditional name for the area (Tawatawa) and it links to the Tawatawa-Vogelmorn Park and Cycle track that is immediately adjacent to the school.

Tawatawa refers to the many tawa trees that once grew in the area.
