Zigzag path is blocked off

While the work is being done on re-matting, the zigzag path is blocked off. If your child wishes to bring a bike or scooter they may want to park it at the bottom of the zigzag path so they don’t have to lug down the steep steps next to the slide. It’s likely to take a couple of weeks for them to finish.

Hīkoi on Tuesday

A few parents have asked what our stance is on taking their children to the hīkoi on Tuesday. While schools are politically neutral, we understand that many of our children and their families have their own views on this topic and as a school we support our tamariki engaging with issues that affect New Zealand. Please let us know in advance if your child will be absent.

Production

This is going to run from 6 - 7.30pm on Thursday 5 December, here at school. It is essentially a walk through our local community, all in our school building. Each team is representing a different aspect of our community and there will be mini-shows, immersive theatre and lots of fun!  We will need people to book in via a googleform which will give information about starting points and the order and times to move around the school to see the different scenes. We are attempting a complex thing here! Wish us luck!

Installation of our carved pou

We have four pou being carved for our entrance way which will sit in the garden in front of the sign at the front of the school.  We are just waiting to hear when these will be ready to be installed. They are going to be beautiful!

After School Care - next year

We have made the decision to trial our own after school care programme in Term 1 and 2, taking over from Enjoy, called RASCals (Ridgway After School Care). At this stage, Enjoy will still be running the holiday programme. Our draft plan is that one of our teachers will be part of the programme to ensure behaviour expectations are maintained and they will be able to lead extra-curricular activities. Bookings will still be through Enrolmy and nothing will change with the booking process.

School signs on Mornington Road

Thanks to everyone that made submissions to the council regarding the lack of school signage on Mornington Road. We have been informed that any new road signage needs to go through the Traffic Resolutions Panel, which means we aren't likely to get any movement on this until February next year. The council is also working on rolling out variable speed limit signs which should help slow drivers down, however there is no timeline on the project yet.

Crazy Hair Day

This was a roaring success!  What cool hair we saw around the school including a light up Christmas tree, a doughnut complete with real icing, cupcakes, mermaid tails and all sorts of hair spray.

Reminders

You can still fill out our whānau survey and bring treat food in for the Salvation Army Christmas collection - the box is in the office!  Also, the Brooklyn Twilight Festival is Saturday and we’d love some more performers - you can sign up here
