Term 4, Week 9, 2019 (12 December 2019)
He mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa - warm greetings to all.
Production
What an awesome Production on Tuesday night! We hope you were as proud of your child as we were and that you enjoyed the show. We realise the sound was a bit of an issue despite the hiring of microphones and the use of Wellington High's sound and lighting technicians. We really showed our resilience with the way children (and teachers) dealt with all these unexpected hiccups! Hopefully this didn't take away from the performance too much. Our main actors did such a great job of carrying on regardless. Here is a link to the script so you can have a read of all the bits you were meant to hear. A big thank you to parents and wider whānau for coming along and being a fantastic audience.
Looking towards 2020
Our school year will start on February 3rd. These are the rooms where the year groups will be based in 2020:
New entrants - Room 5
Year 1, 2 and 3 - Room 1
Ruru - Room 6
Year 4 - 5 - Room 7 and 8
Year 6 - Room 9
Year 7 & 8 - Room 10
Our rebuild is due to start in Term 3 so rooms will change from Term 3 for the senior school and Ruru if the build starts on time.
Congratulations to Jenny Jessep who has accepted a role at another school and will be finishing at Ridgway this year. We are currently advertising to fill the position of Year 4-5 teacher next year.
Stationery lists will be available on the website in January.
A summary of achievement in reading, writing and maths will be emailed to you next week. The teacher's star comment will be posted on Seesaw next week too.
School Fair March - Sunday 22nd March
The 2020 Ridgway School Fair will be held on Sunday 22nd March from 11am to 2pm. To make this day a fabulous success we are putting out a call to all parents to help out. Please sign up early!
We are fundraising to develop the steep bank that separates our playing field from our classrooms. We plan to install a series of steps and adventure play items such as tunnels, huts, slides, ladders, bridges and climbing ropes. This is a major project that we expect will be completed in stages over several years.
Here is a link to the sign up sheet for those who are able to help out and make this another fantastic event.
Garden Watering Over the Holiday
If you are around over the holidays and able to come in to water the garden, please email Sue (sue@ridgway.school.nz). We would love to have the garden watered and loved over the break.
Builders for the Skills Track
The council has finally given the go ahead for the skills track. Jason Eady is pulling together a team to build this and if you can help then get in touch with him on jasoneady@hotmail.com.
Noho Marae
Last week we went to Wellington High School and stayed for two nights at their marae 'Taraika'. Our te reo extension group stayed the first night and our Year 4s stayed the second night. It was an awesome experience for our children and we had a great group of parents staying both nights. We hope to do this again next year! Big thank you to all our parents who supported this.
