2022 Board Newsletters
Term 4
Foreword
Welcome everyone to our final Board of Trustees newsletter for 2022. It’s been a busy and full year for Te Kura O Tawatawa | Ridgway School - most notably with the opening of the new building in Term 3 and more recently the opening of the new BBQ area and grounds this term.
The Board would like to extend our gratitude to the Principal and staff at our school for their mahi this year. The third year of the pandemic has brought its own unique challenges and we appreciate the strong support and compassion the staff have continued to provide to our tamariki. We hope all of our community enjoy safe and happy festive seasons and look forward to seeing everyone refreshed after the holidays.
New courtyard, treetop playground and sports shed
We’re all delighted with the new courtyard and BBQ area - as obviously are our tamariki as evidenced by the excited running into school we are all seeing at morning drop offs. We also all really enjoyed spending time in the new courtyard during the wonderful Festival of the Arts held last week.
Work on the treetop playground is now scheduled to start early in April 2023 - this will include two slides running from the school down to the field.
Work on a new sports equipment shed - to be located near the sandpit at the far end of the courtyard - is progressing. Obtaining the necessary approval from the Ministry of Education is in process.
Parking
The school is continuing to see parents parking on the double yellow lines on Mornington Road, as well as doing u-turns at the end of the road during busy school drop-off and pick-up times.
This is unsafe for our tamariki as it hampers visibility and does not role model good road safety.
The school is also seeing parents parking in the 2-minute park on Mornington Road for longer than is permitted - this park should remain free unless you are doing a short drop-off without getting out of the car.
Please observe the road rules and also keep our driveway clear - these actions go a long way to help keep our tamariki and others in our community safe. Thank you.
Crossing on The Ridgeway near top of Farnham St
Also related to all things safety - we share concerns raised by parents about the pedestrian crossing on The Ridgeway near the top of Farnham St.
Concerns include speeds of cars coming through and a lack of visibility for cars turning onto The Ridgeway from Farnham St.
The Board is currently exploring avenues to escalate these concerns to the Wellington City Council - if any of our school community have any thoughts or comments to contribute, please feel free to send them through to RidgwayBOT@gmail.com.
South Wellington Intermediate School zoning consultation
There is no update on when this consultation will take place. We are continuing to keep in contact with the Ministry of Education to ensure that our school community is given plenty of opportunity to participate in this consultation when it takes place.
